This week, the first sod was turned on the construction of the new primary school in Throsby. To be opened in 2022, the new school in Throsby will be ready to welcome students from Preschool to Year 6.
The school will cater for around 450 primary students and 132 preschool students, with room to expand to cater for future population growth.
The new school in Thorsby will be Canberra’s third zero emissions school, equipped with high quality indoor and outdoor learning areas, as well as integrated spaces to support students with specialised needs.
A community hub for local clubs and groups, the school will have an exciting mixed-use facilities such as a community room and kitchenette, multipurpose double gym, sports courts and change-room facilities, outdoor turf sports field and outdoor multipurpose hardcourts for everyone to enjoy.
This $43.913 million investment in public education will also be another important part of the ACT’s Jobs and Recovery Plan, rebuilding our local economy from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and protecting local jobs, with over 700 workers expected to be involved in the construction of the school.
