Margaret Hendry School celebrates Who we are Together Week

Margaret Hendry School’s Minister for Marketing and Communications, Amy Grace, takes us inside ‘Who we are Together Week’ at MHS, including all of the activities put together by the Children’s Parliament.

Who we are together week is an important week in Margaret Hendry School’s annual calendar. The purpose is to recognise and celebrate Who We Are Together! We engage in fun and different activities to learn more about each other as individuals and what that means for who and how we are together.

This year the theme was “Free to be me!” and incorporated learning experiences aligned to the core values of Harmony Day, National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence and Multicultural day, along with our school wide values systems of Rights, Responsibilities and Opportunities which is informed by the United Nations convention on the rights of the Child.

Each day within the week had a specific focus and a dress code to match. Monday was Harmony Day, Tuesday was Anti Bullying Day, Wednesday was Community Group Day, Thursday was Rights, Responsibilities and Opportunities Day and Friday was Multicultural day. This article is exploring each of these days to give you a clearer view of what they included and how we celebrated them!

But still, there would be no “Who We are Together” Week if it weren’t for MHS Children’s Parliament, so first, meet Children's Parliament.

Children's Parliament is a group of elected students dedicated to making the school better for all members of our community, with a special focus on the students. We work with the Principal to align the key projects for our unique Minister Portfolios to the goals of the strategic plan.

We have advisors from the student body supporting us to enact our Ministry portfolios and reflect on progress throughout the year. One of the ways we reflect, review and refine process as well as increase our capacity as leaders is to seek feedback from children and staff after every event we create. This makes sure we are always focussing on improving the experiences for children but also making us into better leaders for the future.
