National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

Today is National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, it’s a positive opportunity for ACT public schools to ‘Take Action Together’ to find workable solutions to bullying and violence.

The day is also an opportunity to showcase the work that already takes place in ACT schools every day to encourage positive, inclusive and respectful learning environments.

This year’s National Day of Action aims to elevate student voice and empower students.

Every year, ACT schools are encouraged to hold activities and events so students can connect, collaborate and help shape a positive school culture together.

Schools play a powerful role in influencing the prevention of bullying. Bullying, both face to face and online, can disrupt learning, be distressing and cause long term harm to the wellbeing of all those involved.

ACT public schools embrace and include all members of our school communities, and celebrate the diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities that contribute to the unique culture of our school communities.

Inclusion is one of four guiding principles in the ACT Government’s Future of Education Strategy, acknowledging that in a thriving and inclusive education community, all students and their families feel welcomed and valued for who they are and what they can contribute.

When bullying and violence does occur, parents and carers are encouraged to connect with their local school such as through their child’s teacher or principal to find an affective means of resolving the situation.

The ACT Government is committed to ensuring that every school is a safe and supportive environment, where diversity can flourish and every student feels a sense of belonging.
