Andrew Barr MLA is the eighth and current Chief Minister of the ACT. He has been a Member of the Legislative Assembly since 2006, representing the electorate of Molonglo. He was elected Chief Minister in December 2014 after the retirement of then Chief Minister and fellow Canberra Public School Alumni Katy Gallagher. He is also the current ACT Treasurer, Minister for Economic Development, Minister for Tourism and Major Events. He has previously served as Minister for Housing, Minister for Education and Training, Minister for Sport and Recreation, Minister for Planning, Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister for Community Services and Minister for Children and Young People. As Education Minister Andrew had the opportunity to visit almost every school in the ACT.
Andrew is Australia’s longest serving current Treasurer and Minister for Tourism. Andrew Barr is Australia’s first openly gay state or territory leader and he a long record of support for equal rights for gay and lesbian Canberrans, the reproductive rights of women and multiculturalism.
