Katy Gallagher was the sixth Chief Minister of the ACT. She was elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly in 2001, representing the electorate of Molonglo. While holding the position of Chief Minister, she also served as the Minister for Health, Minister for Higher Education and Minister for Regional Development. She was first elected to the position of Chief Minister in May 2011 after the retirement of Jon Stanhope and was re-elected as Chief Minister after the 2012 ACT Election. Ms Gallagher has previously served as ACT Treasurer, Minister for Education, Minister for Industrial Relations, Minister for Children, Youth and Family Support, Minister for Community Services, Minister for Women and Minister for Territory and Municipal Services. She resigned as Chief Minister and as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in December 2014 and in November 2015 Katy was elevated to the Federal Labor frontbench, taking up responsibility as Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Shadow Minister for Housing and Homelessness and Shadow Minister Assisting the Leader on State and Territory Relations until the 2016 election. Following the election Katy became Shadow Minister for Small Business and Financial Services and Manager of Opposition Business (Senate). Katy stepped down from her role as Senator in May 2018 and in June 2018 she became a member of the RSPCA Board.
