Great system, great opportunities!
Canberra's public school system is highly regarded nationally as a leader in teaching and learning, educational outcomes and pastoral care.
Canberra’s public schools provide an excellent education system, with opportunities for intellectual, sporting and cultural development.
Programs coordinated by the ACT Department of Education and Training ensure quality teaching in modern, well equipped schools and provide strong caring support from teachers and departmental staff.
In order to maintain excellence in innovative and leading practice, teachers undertake a minimum of five days of professional learning each year to incorporate relevant and current pedagogical research and understanding of teaching practice. Through their professional pathways agreements teachers extend their experience and ensure their commitment to life-long learning.
System excellence is delivered through:
- the development of curriculum at school level and the implementation of the ACT curriculum framework P-10, and approved senior secondary, college year 11 and 12 courses
- public schools being supported in their work of educating each child for 21st century opportunities
- high quality professional learning for teachers offered through, or at, the Department’s Centre for Teaching and Learning.
