Australian Curriculum

The Australian Curriculum was designed by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to help all young Australians to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens. The three-dimensional design of the foundation to year 10 Australian Curriculum recognises the importance of disciplinary knowledge, skills and understanding alongside general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities.

Presented as a developmental sequence of learning from kindergarten (Foundation) to year 10, the Australian Curriculum describes to teachers, parents, students and others in the wider community, what is to be taught and the quality of learning expected of young people as they progress through school. All ACT kindergarten to year 10 schools use the Australian Curriculum.

The Australian Curriculum also includes a set of national standards for student achievement in all learning areas, outlining essential knowledge, understanding and skills for young people’s future learning, growth and active participation in Australian society. Year 11 and 12 students undertaking the ACT Senior Secondary Certificate study accredited Board of Senior Secondary Studies courses. Courses and associated curriculum can be found on the Board of Senior Secondary Studies website.
