In 2015 the ACT Education Directorate designed the Pathways website to allow students to reflect on who they are, identify their interests, set goals, practice decision making and develop a plan.
Pathways is designed to be used by young people with the support of their teachers, careers advisors, youth workers, community service case managers and other adults who support young people to plan for their future. It can be incorporated across the curriculum to create links with the world beyond school and to increase the relevance of specific subjects to students.
The Pathways website provides young people in the ACT:
- access to a secure password protected online version of their Pathways Plan from year 5 to year 12, ensuring their Plan can be updated as their interests, goals and aspirations change over time;
- access to convenient, portable, interactive learning modules which are accessible at any time or place from a range of devices (smart phones, tablets and desktops);
- the opportunity to develop their career management competencies to support their transition to their next education setting and/or post secondary school option, including work and/or further education and training; and
- the opportunity to share their Plan with others, including their parents and carers, mentors and their next education setting. This can be done in person, hard copy or via email, encouraging improved communication to ensure a consistent approach to transition planning and career education across all sectors in the ACT.
