Safe and Supportive Schools

The Safe and Supportive Schools policy clearly articulates the importance of Canberra public schools providing safe, respectful and supportive school environments. The policy, procedures and support documents focus on safety by ensuring that schools have processes in place to address bullying, harassment, violence and respond to complex and challenging behaviour.

Safe and Supportive Schools Policy Procedure A provides information to schools in relation to preventing and addressing bullying, harassment and violence. Procedure B focuses on safely responding to complex and challenging behaviour, with information relating to behaviour support plans and the use of protective action as an emergency response to prevent harm.

The SSS policy has been developed in response to the updated National Safe Schools Framework (2013).

Schools must report instances of bullying, harassment and violence that pose an immediate threat to the safety of students and staff as critical incidents. This report must be made to the Director of School Improvement immediately by telephone and in writing within 24 hours.

The policy, procedures and fact sheets are available at this link Safe and Supportive Schools Policy.
