  1. What is this policy about?
    1. This policy supports legislative requirements to make available for the inspection by members of the public of documents relating to applications, registration panel reports and the register of non-government schools.
  2. Policy Statement
    1. The Directorate will, upon written request:
      • make available for inspection final approved copies of applications, panel reports and the register of non-government schools for inspection by members of the public at the Education and Training Directorate during ordinary business hours
      • provide electronic copies of these documents.
    2. Copies of non government school registration certificates are not provided.
  3. Who does this policy apply to?
    1. This policy applies to Directorate staff and members of the public.
  4. Context
    1. The Education Act 2004 Sections 79, 83(7), 84(7), 85(5), 87(4), 88A(5), 89(5) and 98 outlines the obligations of the Director-General to make documents relating to applications, panel reports and the register of non-government schools available for inspection by members of the public and, if requested, to provide partial or full copies of these documents.

  5. Responsibilities
    1. The Manager, Liaison Unit: is responsible for implementing this policy.
    2. Policy Owner: The Director, Governance and Assurance is responsible for this policy.
  6. Monitoring and Review
    1. The Policy Owner monitors the policy. This includes an annual scan of operation and review. A full review of the policy will be conducted within a three year period.

      • Application: An application is an application made under the Education Act 2004 relating to the in-principle approval or registration of a non-government school.
      • Director-General: This means the person engaged under division 3.4 of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 as the Director-General of the Education and Training Directorate.
      • Directorate: This means the Education and Training Directorate.
      • Non-government school: This means a registered ACT non-government school.
      • Panel report: A panel report is a report made by a panel appointed by the Minister for Education and Training to report on an application for registration of a non-government school.
