The expansion of Margaret Hendry School is now complete.
The new, state-of-the-art upgrade has produced:
- A two-level learning space that supports food technology, Science Technology Engineering Art and Maths (STEAM), and small group programs.
- An outdoor learning and play area, which will help enhance a connection to the environment.
- Two additional carparks which will also help improve traffic flow.
- A new, second bike enclosure which supports and promotes active, healthy travel options. The school also runs a bike library to provide transport options to the local community.
- A new Community Hub provides a flexible space to run school and community activities – the school is committed to being part of local community.
This expansion will be able to accommodate up to 600 additional Kindergarten to year 6 students, helping support the growing north Gungahlin region. The expansion also provides more facilities for community use.
The building’s sustainable design principles makes Margaret Hendry School 100% carbon neutral – supporting the ACT’s target of zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.
This state-of-the art upgrade is part of an $118 million investment from the ACT Government. This includes the new North Gungahlin High School development next door, which opens for the start of the 2025 school year.
We can’t wait to see Margaret Hendry School students using the new space every day as part of their learning and play.
