ACT public school teachers receive nation-leading public school pay and conditions.
Under the ACT Public Sector Education Directorate (Teaching Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2023-2026 we offer a better classification structure that supports experienced teachers, new educators, and school leaders.
Supports include:
- Reduced face-to-face teaching hours for new educators
- In-school mentoring
- Ongoing professional learning.
We support our teachers to do what they do best which is to teach. We have:
- Better workloads that prioritise educational leadership, teaching and learning.
- 4 staff development days a year at the beginning of each term (student free) from 2024.
- Guaranteed minimum 3 hours release time per week for all staff within school hours.
- The right to disconnect outside of work hours, including a reset on community expectations outside of hours.
New educators
- First year graduates will earn a starting salary of $84,978 from January 2024
- By the end of 2026 you will be earning a salary of $104,314.
- A reduction in face-to-face teaching time.
- A comprehensive New Educator Support Program to set you up for success.
- Mentoring and one-on-one support.
- Paid practicum leave for Permit to Teach teachers in their final year.
Experienced teachers
- Experienced teachers will earn a starting salary of to $101,447 from January 2024
- Increased salaries throughout the agreement will see teachers reaching a top salary of $129,106 to commence the 2026 school year.
- A better classification structure and new increment for experienced teachers.
- A faster pathway to the highest increment.
- We will also offer incentives for recently retired teachers to return to work (TQI and WWVP fees)
- Paid professional learning for casual teachers.
School leaders
- Earn $137,133 as a SLC from January 2024
- Earn $159,091 as a SLB from January 2024
- Earn a salary of $181,241 to $208,684 from January 2024 for an SLA
- A new higher increment for School Leader Bs and Cs
- Salary increases for all School Leader As.
As ACT Government employees our teachers will also receive:
- Higher superannuation – increasing to 12.5% from 1 January 2026.
- Enhanced leave provisions, including Increased birth leave, assisted reproductive leave and enhanced bonding and primary care giver leave.
