For all information about how ACT public schools are responding to the pandemic, please visit our COVID-19 school arrangements webpage.

Starting school is a big time for your child, and even the whole family.

We’ve assembled some information to help you and your child make the transition to big school. Below are a series of topics where you can learn more about public education in the ACT, what to expect on your first day and where to learn more. Remember this webpage is just to get you started – your school will give you lots of advice and information as well.

We’re also really proud to showcase two books which can help you and your child get ready for the first day at kindergarten. We’re Excited is written by Shona Chapman, a Ngiyampaa-Wiradjuri woman, with a great story about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids starting kindy. In My First Day At Big School our own Carly Gange writes about settling down nerves as little kids contemplate big school.
