The Education Directorate has released its interim position on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in ACT public schools.
We acknowledge the potential of AI tools to enhance teaching and learning but will take a cautious approach to their use in ACT public schools to ensure responsible and ethical use by staff and students.
AI tools include:
- large language models such as ChatGPT, Bing Chat, and Google Bard
- multimodal models that incorporate images, music, or videos, such as Canva or Dall-E.T
What does this mean for schools?
Student Chromebooks will continue to restrict student access to AI applications due to potential exposure to harmful content.
AI tools are available for staff to use and can be accessed on their work computers and other devices.
